Standard exterior louvered vinyl shutters are constructed from multiple components of durable polypropylene, stapled tight together, and ready for installation when shipped. A select number of common widths are offered to pair with custom shutter heights in one-quarter inch increments up to 97”. The 7/8 “ wide vinyl louvers are open, with space between the slats, and slanted down in a fixed position. All decorative vinyl shutters have a molded wood grain surface texture and beaded detail, with a hollow open back that gains rigidity when affixed to the building.
Single-wide vinyl shutters are fabricated with a single bank of horizontal downward pointing louvers. Double-wide panels incorporate a vertical sub-stile, creating left and right louver areas. Shutters manufactured in a double-wide configuration can be up to 29” in width, and mimic the presentation of wood Bermuda shutters.
Choose from either a standard straight top rail or a cathedral top with a slight crescent just above the uppermost louver. Both options have a horizontal top edge. Arch top shutters have a curved stile that gradually descends from the shutter peak on one side to eventually intersect the vertical portion of the opposite side. Often, the arch is a 1:1 ratio, meaning the distance from the top point to where the arch begins is equal to the width of the shutter. This scale works for windows that incorporate a half circle at the top of a rectangular bottom, the most common type of round top window. Some arch top windows are not perfect and employ a curve that requires a special profile. A springline measurement is required to construct a custom arch top shutter. Vinyl arch top shutters are sold in pairs, with one for the left side and one for the right side of the window with a rounded top. The arch top option is only available for single wide shutters.
Select from ten unique profiles to conform to the window configuration or to give additional character. The #1 designation will specify no divider rail with one bank of louvers from top to bottom. Options #2 – #10 allocate either one, two, or three divider rails in various locations. It is wise to assess the target window for existing horizontal divisions so the divider rails can align.
Nineteen standard outdoor colors coordinate well with both historic and contemporary homes. Vinyl black shutters are definitely the most popular and widely installed. Black shutters complement existing features of the house while remaining neutral in tone. White and grays work in a similar fashion to promote a unification of all components of the building.
Blue, brown and green shutters may garner greater prominence but also highlight the windows and draw attention to the front door. Red shutters are the ultimate accent and will catch the eye. Pre-colored shutters should not be painted. The “Paintable” designation is fabricated from Polystyrene and arrives ready to finish. Most major paint manufacturers have compiled collections of exterior house colors that complement one another. We encourage you to find an arrangement that works best for your architecture style, geographic location and personal taste.
Vinyl shutters can be secured on a variety of house surfaces. We provide shutter spikes or screws, depending on your assessment of what is necessary in the process of measuring for vinyl shutters. Use “Shutter Screws” to attach to wood, vinyl, and other soft siding. “Shutter Spikes” adhere shutters to hard surfaces such as masonry, stucco, or hardboard. Both screws and spikes are color coordinated to match the specified shutter color. Vinyl shutters can only be installed in a stationary position and cannot be functional (swing open and closed with operable hardware).
