We offer exterior louvered shutters constructed from five different materials.
High quality natural exterior louvered wood shutters have been used for centuries to make American homes more comfortable, safe, and attractive. We use three kiln-dried lumbers to forge stiles, rails, and louvers that compose our line of premium exterior wood shutters. Each panel is assembled with time-tested techniques for maximum strength and longevity. Majestic Bahama shutters cover the entire opening, but project away from the house at the bottom of the window.
ShutterLand also offers an introductory grade wood shutter with louvers. These outdoor panels are intended for use on buildings and homes that need a quick, inexpensive external restoration. Economy Pine wooden shutters generally have a shortened life because of the species and grade of wood.
PVC louvered shutters are the most versatile option for exterior shutters. They function like premium wood shutters, with individual louvers spaced to allow airflow and provide historical accuracy. And they have strength and longevity that exceeds that of composite and vinyl shutters due to their exceptional construction. PVC shutters can be installed to be functional, with additional hinges necessary to secure the additional weight. These shutters are the most long-lasting option with the least amount of maintenance, making them a great value.
Synthetic materials have only recently become an acceptable substitute for natural wood. Our composite exterior shutters are constructed from a high quality durable material that is impervious to moisture, rot, and termites. Composite exterior shutters with louvers outperform wood in many categories.
Vinyl louvered shutters are impact resistant and unaffected by moisture. They have a hollow back, so they are easy to lift and install. Decorative vinyl shutters are sold in limited widths and a full range of heights. There are many stock colors from which to choose to match or complement most exteriors.
Louvers will position down and away from the window when functional shutters are installed properly. This orientation shields the window from various precipitation and sheds moisture away from the opening. Pivoting the shutters to an open position results in louvers that are directed upward. Only wood and PVC shutters are suitable for installation with hinges. Stationary shutters should be installed to give an illusion that they could be operable.
Louvers on composite and vinyl shutters are positioned down by default, which is technically opposite of the standard guideline. Composite louvers can be reversed on request, but is not recommended because moisture can get trapped in the valleys created by the interconnected louvers.
A divider rail creates top and bottom louvered areas. The location of the divider rail can be specified by supplying the measurement from the bottom of the shutter to the center of the divider. More than one divider rail can be used to make three or more louver sections.
